The celebrations to commemorate Ormiston House’s 150 year history commenced in grand style with the Highland Celtic Celebration event on Sunday 22 April. Well over 1,000 people took advantage of a beautifully sunny day and enjoyed the varied programme of dancing, singing and music to honour the House’s Scottish and Irish historical connections.
The combined Ormiston Heritage Pipes and Drums and Redland Sporting Club Pipe Band entertained with their stirring renditions of traditional Scottish tunes, Kathleen Proctor Moore captured hearts with her beautiful singing, and the adorable Murrumba Scotch Terrier Mascots performed with aplomb. The Tara Singers, Moreton Celtic Fiddlers, Jill Dobbs Scottish and Irish Dancers, Kaleidoscope Dancers, Scottish Volunteer Corps and Cleveland Scottish Dancers rounded out the full programme, and their performances were enoyed hugely by the large crowd.
It was wonderful to see so many people on the lawn of the house, enjoying their Devonshire Teas while they watched the entertainment. We hope everyone will come again, and support our many other events during this milestone year.
