The research is finished, the lecture is ready, and our Historian can’t wait to greet you all tomorrow at our 2019 Lecture!
Come and join our Resident Historian Jessica at 10.30am tomorrow (Sunday) as she shares with you the history of Captain Louis Hope – a remarkable figure in Australian history. Coinciding with the Australian Heritage Festival, this is a fantastic Sunday outing!
Tickets (only $15 each) includes a Devonshire Tea on the verandah before the lecture, the lecture itself, and you can stay in the grounds until closing time at 4pm. Why not make a day of it – bring a picnic, explore the historic house and gardens, or purchase a sandwich for lunch on the verandah!
If you haven’t booked already, let us know you’re coming, and we’ll have a Devonshire Tea ready and waiting for you! Send us a message, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 0457 675 137. We can’t wait to welcome you!
Please note: We will be closed on Easter Sunday, 21 April 2019.
Marking the 50th anniversary of the very first Opera Beneath the Stars at Historic Ormiston House was a marvellous occasion that celebrated family, friends, music, heritage and community!
Despite the rain, guests enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of musical and operatic delights from Rosemarie Arthars, Shaun Brown, Andrew Collis, Sarah Crane, Rosario La Spina, Milijana Nikolic, John Woods, the UQ Singers, Camille Barry and the Black Square Quartet. The heritage gem that is Ormiston House and its beautiful grounds was brought to life as guests celebrated the musical fundraising traditions that were such a vibrant part of the Redlands and Brisbane from 1969, when the first Opera Beneath the Stars was held. Guests also enjoyed the scrumptious delights from The Vintage Apron throughout the fantastic event!
None of this would have been possible without the truly amazing volunteer team that helps bring Historic Ormiston House to life each and every time we open. Thank you to all of our volunteers who prepared the grounds, helped set up for the event, organised catering for our volunteers and performers, assisted guests with parking and entry into the grounds, showed guests through the historic house, oversaw first aid, and took care of the amazing raffle. We also had wonderful help from members of Rotary Wellington Point. We could not do this without all of you!
Don’t forget to mark our Craft Expo in your diaries for Sunday 10 March!! We’ll be open from 10 am to 4 pm, and with Devonshire Teas and sandwiches available on the verandah, plus amazing crafts to view and buy in the craft expo, this is set to be a fantastic day out!

Happy New Year to all our friends, followers, supporters, visitors and guests!
Times and fashions may have changed since this New Year postcard, showing Queen Street and the Post Office Clock in Brisbane, was sent out to friends in circa 1908, but the sentiment remains the same! We hope you all have a bright year ahead and can’t wait to welcome you to our own Redlands heritage gem, Historic Ormiston House, in 2019!
Whatever your plans are for this Christmas period, we hope you have as much fun as these children did, on the Cleveland Pier, with Ormiston in the distance, c. 1908!
The volunteer team at Historic Ormiston House would like to wish all our supporters, friends, followers, visitors and guests a wonderful Christmas and New Year. Thank you for all your support throughout 2018 – without that support, we could not continue to share the peacefulness and heritage of this beautiful house and property with the community.
We would like to wish you all well for 2019, and look forward to welcoming you again when we re-open on Sunday 27 January, at 12 noon!

At Historic Ormiston House we recently updated our volunteer guide books and training manuals, which involved lots of research, printing, book filling and effort from our amazing volunteers!
Our wonderful volunteers helped us fill all the folders with the plastic sleeves and printed pages, and enjoyed a morning tea to launch the new edition of the book. Lots of work was involved, but our volunteers enjoyed the time together.
This project would not have been possible without the sponsorship of Cleveland Office Supplies, a local, family owned business. Our printing job was completed so well and professionally by the friendly staff, who really made us feel at home when we popped into the shop. It’s absolutely wonderful to have such a professional and well-equipped business like this right here in the Redlands! Thank you to the wonderful COS team for supporting this local heritage gem!
Our last day for 2018 is Sunday 9 December. We re-open for 2019 on Sunday 27 January. Thank you for all your support in 2018. We look forward to welcoming you again in 2019!
