Environment, Heritage, Sustainability
Historic Ormiston House is delighted to be hosting the 2020 Small Museums Conference from Friday 16 October to Sunday 18 October inclusive, with a pre-conference seminar on Thursday 15 October!
The conference theme is ‘Environment, Heritage, Sustainability’. In a rapidly changing heritage landscape, the need for museums to be sustainable is increasingly important. Museums are urged to make sustainable choices when considering staffing, finances and environmental decisions. For small museums, these decisions can be in conflict with the needs and expectations of volunteers and reliance on constrained budgets. The conference focusses on the ideas of the ‘environmental museum’ and the ‘sustainable museum’, with a particular focus on the cultural value of museums in our communities. We can’t wait to welcome delegates to this exciting event where they can network with like-minded volunteers and professionals, while discovering how Queensland’s small museums can be established as foremost thinkers in the movement towards historically and environmentally sustainable museums.
This event is supported by Museums and Galleries Queensland, and sponsored by Griffith University. We also acknowledge the ongoing support of the Historic Ormiston House volunteers for this exciting event.
Stay tuned for registration and program details!
For any queries, please feel free to contact conference chair Dr Jessica Stroja (firstname.lastname@example.org).
