Volunteers

Ormiston House is run and maintained entirely by a team of around 70 enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers.  The team consists mainly of retired members of the local community who spare a few hours each month to help with the many and diverse tasks that are needed to keep the house in good order and to open the house to the public.

Without the wonderful support of our volunteers, the local and wider comminities would not be able to benefit from visiting this historical gem of the Redlands. All of the funds raised by welcoming the 10,000+ visitors each year and holding special events goes towards restoring and maintaining the historically important house and grounds. The valuable work of our happy and friendly team of volunteers ensures the house will be preserved for the pleasure of future generations.

As the number of visitors is increasing each year, we also need to bring new volunteers into the team. If you could spare a few hours each month, we would love to have you join us. Some of the tasks we need your help with include:

  • Taking admissions at the gate
  • Selling Devonshire Tea tickets
  • Serving Devonshire Teas
  • Acting as tour guides on Sundays and weekday tours
  • Selling souvenirs
  • Selling raffle tickets
  • Putting up marquees for special events
  • Assisting with garden maintenance
  • Cleaning the house and contents
  • Distributing flyers and newsletters
